Our skin develops our skills for reading
The skin is the outside of our body and brain. It has many important functions. It is important for supporting the eyes in learning to read. The eyes can see but the brain perceives what the eyes are looking at. We explore our world through our hands. The development of our ability to touch and explore develops our visual perception. A child’s skin takes 8 years to mature. Children who cannot recognize shapes in their hand will not be able to recognize letters and numbers visually and they will find reading a challenge. Ask someone with you to close there eyes and you can draw a letter or number on their hand and see if they can identify it. Blind people use their fingers to read braille. Is your child’s visual perception ready for reading.
